Empower Your Child with Hypnosis

Many problems of childhood pass naturally in time, but when a little extra help is required, going to a hypnotist with children can bring about effective results quickly. Children are wonderfully receptive to hypnosis. Their vivid imaginations make it much easier to access the unconscious and bring about a desired change. Most children reach powerful levels of hypnosis far faster than adults do.

Kids love to discover things. They are open to learning, receiving and responding to new ideas. Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxed concentration and calmness similar to the state kids are in when they play imaginary games, draw pictures or color, watch their favorite DVD or even when they are drifting off to sleep. The heightened sense of awareness during hypnosis allows them to be more open to suggestion than usual.

Similar to mindfulness meditation, hypnosis utilizes many of the same relaxation principles but in a targeted, goal oriented way in order to address a specific problem. Parents know that to help their child create a new behavior or change an existing one, it often requires a bit of imagination, some positive reinforcement and a state of openness. Hypnosis for kids is similar to working with adults but with some modifications. Kids love stories, imaginative games, role playing. Sometimes even magic, puppets or costumes might be helpful. Hypnosis can help kids learn how to manage:

  • Stress
  • Fears
  • Bedtime
  • Nightmares
  • Bed Wetting
  • Thumb Sucking
  • Pain
  • Nail Biting
  • Stuttering
  • Life events
  • Healthy Eating
  • Weight Loss
  • Divorcing Parents
  • Skin warts

Children can gain new insights and perspectives helping them advance in their personal lives, their friendships and in their school work. Sometimes, just a reminder that they are in charge of their body can be helpful. They may see their body like it is a robot and their mind as having the controls. They choose the metaphor and we use it in trance. The child drives the story line and sometimes even the parent can be used as a prop. Kids generally live in the moment. We step into their taxicab and go for a ride together.

Kids can access imagination very easily. And they use intuition all the time. They are connected to it. We use their advice and suggestions, empowering and activating their own problem solving abilities. Sometimes the body is sending out a signal. If we can listen, we can begin to turn the alarm off and tend to the part that is in need. Through conscious awareness and knowledge we can begin the process of change. Using a trance state, suggestions and imagery, hypnosis allows for change to occur more easily and quickly.

How does anyone get self-esteem and resilience?

Usually we get them through experience. In hypnosis, we take kids on a journey where they see themselves doing things well. The wonderful part is they are able to feel that sensation afterwards too. Most importantly, your child will leave the session with skill sets or tools to use. They can learn how to get out of an unwanted state any time they choose. They can learn how to use a relaxation response or simply practice deep breathing.

We learn what the parent wants during the phone consultation but we also want to know what the child wants. Parents are welcome to stay in the room for their child’s session. Sometimes teens want their parent with them, others do not. Every kid is different. We work with children starting at the age of 7.

Some kids are excited to try hypnosis since they have seen it used in cartoons. Unlike the cartoon character however, your child will be aware of everything that is going on during the session. He or she is never out of control or under the control of the hypnotist. Simply put, they are going to use their own creative power with an imagination expert to get some help with a concern.
